Today Netlify joins the MACH Alliance as a first member of the “Enabler” category. We’ve already been working closely with many of its members for years and we are super excited to become the official orchestration platform for MACH projects.

What is MACH?

What is the MACH Alliance? It stands for Microservices based, API-first, Cloud-native SaaS and Headless. Launched in 2020, it is an industry consortium that aims to guide and show the business advantage of building on the decoupled web.

The Enabler

What makes the new enabler category different is that while a vendor member produces an application that enterprises can buy, an Enabler member delivers a service or technology vendors can use as part of a MACH integration. Netlify provides a common workflow, build and deployment processes so you can pick and choose between the tools that the MACH Alliance members offer, and have them work seamlessly together.

Jamstack architecture and MACH agree: The future is headless, decoupled, API-driven

The rise of the Jamstack architecture of the modern decoupled web has been meteoric over the last few years. At the core, it's a set of best practices for building a new modern web where the web UI layer and the backend business logic are separated. This leads to a fundamentally faster, more secure and more scalable web and is what enables the MACH approach. As backend teams adopt a MACH approach, adopting the Jamstack is easy for web teams. Essentially, MACH builds on Jamstack.

MACH refers to many of the core concepts we hold dear at Netlify. It includes microservices, a modular “a la carte” approach with being able to leverage services like Stripe, Twilio and more. APIs make all of this functionality programmatically accessible. Cloud-native means “born in the cloud” with the ease of elastic scaling, such as for content distribution. Headless enables you to build whatever frontends you want. Teams work in parallel and independently.
