Netlify Analytics delivers comprehensive, privacy-focused web traffic analysis with no performance overhead

GDPR-compliant tool leverages server logs rather than client-side data sources to deliver the most comprehensive view of website traffic for developers

LONDON July 10, 2019Netlify, the company changing the way developers build and deploy web applications, today launched a new privacy-oriented analytics tool that delivers more accurate data, directly from the Netlify server logs, with zero impact to site performance. Netlify users can add Analytics now with just a few clicks in their dashboard, and even backfill historical data to view trends over time.

Most analytics tools rely on third party scripts, which can be obscured by ad blockers, but Netlify Analytics ingests data directly from its edge server nodes. That means Netlify Analytics provides a complete accounting of all traffic, independent of the client environment, with the ability to surface unique server-side data like the top pages and images returning 404 errors to your users. It also means Netlify does not track or share users’ personal information with third party organisations.

“The tide is rising against large technology companies aggregating and sharing detailed personal data, and both individuals and governments are taking steps to protect personal privacy,” said Mathias Biilmann, CEO of Netlify. “We created Netlify Analytics because our customers want a powerful solution that doesn’t store and send all of their users’ data to third party organisations.”

Reflecting the Netlify philosophy of simplicity and performance, the user interface was designed to be super clean, delivering only the most essential information, including page views, unique visitors, top pages, top sources, top resources not found, and bandwidth used. The UI is suitable for both web developers and marketers, and the approach lays the foundation for modern A/B testing with rich server side data.

“Netlify Analytics is exactly what I want. It's handy to see what's working on your site and importantly, what’s not. Their system does exactly that without tracking the heck out of my visitors. Another stellar service from my favourite hosting platform,” Andy Bell, web designer and Netlify user.

Netlify Analytics coupled with the recent launch of Netlify Dev, a powerful local dev server with live sharing capabilities, extends the core continuous delivery and deployment platform with a suite of tools and services designed to make developers’ lives easier.

Netlify Analytics is $9/site/month for up to 250K monthly pageviews. New users can get started with Netlify for free and add Analytics to their dashboard as they deploy new sites.
